Welcome to Löyly!
The magical spark of
our passion projects.

Over the years, Ben and I have supported each other and collaborated together on a number of unique, beautiful pieces that allow us to play, learn and tinker within newly found and treasured hobbies. The range and materials are vast but each project is rooted in curiosity, intrigue and an attention to detail that keeps us obsessed.

Löyly (low-loo) is the Finnish word for the spirit or soul of the Sauna—by pouring water onto hot stones, the space transforms from a dry heat to a magical swirl of warmth, energy and joy—giving you rest, peace and life the more you put in.

Our Favorite Projects

Woodworking

The Skerry

During COVID, Ben decided to build a sailboat. Following plans with copper-stitching technique, Ben spent about a year and a half sanding, finishing, and perfecting the boat, and we made maiden voyage in May of 2021. The Skerry is a 16’, small sailboat that we’ve sailed in a handful of small lakes all around Michigan, with Lake Fanny Hoe in Copper Harbour being our favorite.

Stained Glass

Margo’s Rainbow

For Margo’s fifth birthday, Amanda designed and created a beautiful rainbow stained glass panel window for Margo’s room.

The Flowerpress

Sometimes it the smallest comment that can inspire and challenge us to create something new we’ve never made before. I mentioned to Ben that I saw a beautiful, vintage French flower press on Instagram, and that it would be so awesome to have one!

Inspired by turn of the century book presses and antique French wares, Ben created something within his own style. The result, this new and fully custom designed flower press, made out of white oak, brass and steel.
